Spelling Shed – Parent Guide for Spelling Shed

Spellings EYFS – Year 2

Children will receive weekly spellings based on the spelling patterns for their year group or the phonics phase they have been learning. These will be sent home with their homework and posted on Dojo. Please take time to practise these spellings at home with your child every week.

At Kestrel Mead, we recognise the importance of teaching our children to spell accurately. Children who can spell feel confident and are able to write with enjoyment. We want our children to be equipped with a range of strategies for learning spelling and to be able to apply their strategies when spelling words in their independent writing. We encourage our children to enjoy exploring and investigating the patterns and contradictions of the English language and to take delight in what they discover.

To help support our teaching of spelling, we have signed up to Spelling Shed for children in Years 3 – 6. Spelling Shed is a game-based tool that can be used at home to boost children’s confidence in spelling. Children enjoy playing the games and practise their spellings in a fun, interactive way. Your child has been given their login information and they can access Spelling Shed online here: https://play.edshed.com/en-gb/login.

The website can be accessed using a computer, phone or tablet. I have attached a Parent Guide to this page to support you to use Spelling Shed at home. As ever, please do carefully supervise your child when they use the internet. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
