Computing

At Kestrel Mead, we have taken deliberate steps to ensure that our Computing curriculum is comprehensive, relevant, and enriched by providing our students with the chance to explore new systems, create and design programs, and nurture their ideas so that they are fully equipped to explore technology safely and with confidence.

Our approach to Computing aligns closely with the National Curriculum alongside the Teach Computing scheme with careful planning for each year group allowing us to progressively build knowledge and skills as students’ progress through the school, fostering critical thinking and a deeper understanding of the tech-driven world they inhabit. Through our Computing instruction, we empower students with the knowledge, time, and resources to ignite their passion for this exciting subject.

Furthermore, our Computing curriculum contributes to character development by encouraging students to experiment, adapt, and share ideas whilst learning new skills. This fosters curiosity and resilience and prepares our students to become knowledgeable, skilled, and proactive participants in various activities online. We are dedicated to equipping our students with a diverse skill set, ensuring there are no limits to their potential. To do this, we incorporate both pre- and post-learning tasks, emphasising the importance of being global citizens and promoting awe, wonder, and reciprocity.

Split into three strands, Computing encompasses computer science, information and technology (IT) and digital literacy (e-safety). We provide access to a wide range of apps and software, all within a safe and secure environment. Our commitment to internet safety is exemplified through initiatives such as Project Evolve which is taught weekly to ensure all children understand the importance of online safety.
